PAINTINGS AND COLLAGE

I undertook vigorous training in color theory at
the Carmel Art Institute, a school noted for
active ties with early 20th Century luminaries,
LHote, and Leger.  In time, I was able to
develop my own method of color-mixing to
reflect my involvement with Eastern mysticism,
the practice of yoga and daily meditation. The
dynamic between opposing forces seeking
balance, which exists on both spiritual and
physical planes, could be applied also to the
opposing pairs of colors facing one another on
the color wheel. Equilibrium is achieved when
colors from separate systems vibrate, or
resonate energetically when juxtaposed against
each other.. This lively interaction between
systems gives the illusion of movement in
space. It is this element, when successful, that
makes me feel that I am in touch with the life
force.

By incorporating collaged segments
into my abstract compositions, I can let
chance occurrence  dictate a solution.
Such free association offers me an
entrance to meaningful dialogues
between the torn or cut segments
seeking placement, and the actual
underlying field of colors. Chance
connections that resonate or vibrate in
a lively fashion, however fleeting, is
positive energy which viewers may
interpret in their own unique way.
